The University of Findlay was in need of a unique logo for the Total Solar Eclipse that is happening in April 2024. Below is my process of how we arrived at the final logo and logo variations.

Graphic Designer

Primary Logo
logo with date
Use this logo when you have space and want to add the date of the event
Small
Use this logo when you need a simplified logo
Stacked
Use this logo when there is not enough space to use the primary logo
1. Start with research and a mood board
During this time, I define an aesthetic and discuss any goals of the project.
Goals:
Needs to be scalable
Something different from other university’s/cities
Inspiration:
Space race
Handmade Look
2. Explore Ideas
Two ideas emerged at this time. One design was more NASA inspired with the typeface that was chosen. The other was more of a hand-drawn look that was drawing on the 50’s/60’s space race time.
Idea 1: NASA Inspired
Idea 2: Hand-drawn look
3. Receive feedback and refine idea
The first idea was chosen to continue exploring but it had two major pieces of feedback.
1. The colors needed to look more like the University of Findlay.
2. The abstract eclipse was reading like a gear or poker chip.
